How to make a baseball card

The whole card is built in this page. Nothing is uploaded, so it works as fast as your browser does.

  1. Add the player photo

Drop a photo on the card or click it to choose one. Drag to move it, scroll or pinch to zoom. A vertical photo with room above the head fits best.

  2. Fill in the details

Type the player's name, team, and jersey number, and pick a position. Long names shrink to fit instead of running off the card.

  3. Pick a design and colors

Choose from four designs and eight team color pairs. The card updates as you go.

  4. Download and print

Save the single card for a print shop, or the 9-up sheet to print on cardstock at home and cut out.

Baseball card questions

What size is a baseball card?

A standard baseball card is 2.5 × 3.5 inches (63.5 × 88.9 mm), the same size as most modern trading cards. That is the size this maker designs at. The downloaded card file adds a 1/8 inch bleed on every side, so the file itself is 2.75 × 3.75 inches, or 825 × 1125 pixels at 300 dpi.

Is this baseball card template free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many cards you make. Pick a design, add a photo and the player's details, and download the card or a print sheet.

How do I print baseball cards at home?

Download the 9-up print sheet. It is a US Letter PDF with nine copies of the card and crop marks in the margin. Print it at 100% ("Actual size", not "Fit to page") on heavy cardstock, then cut along the crop marks with a paper trimmer. The cards are butted edge to edge, so each cut separates two rows or columns at once.

Can I send the card to a print shop instead?

Yes. Download the single card JPEG. It is 300 dpi and includes a 1/8 inch bleed, which is what most print shops and online card printers ask for. Tell them the trim size is 2.5 × 3.5 inches. Names and numbers stay at least 1/8 inch inside the trim, so nothing important is lost when the card is cut.

Does it work for softball, football, soccer, or basketball?

Yes. Change the sport in the Player section and the position list changes with it: softball, football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball are all built in. The card size and designs stay the same.

What kind of photo works best?

A vertical photo of the player from about the waist up, with some space above the head. The full-bleed designs need about 825 × 1125 pixels to print sharply, which any recent phone photo covers. The maker checks the resolution of your crop as you frame it and tells you if it will print soft. iPhone HEIC files cannot be opened in a browser, so export the photo as a JPEG first.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is read by your browser to draw the card and build the download. It never leaves your device and is never sent to Batch Relay or anyone else.

Can I make cards for a whole team?

This maker builds one card at a time, which works for a single player or a small team. Sports photographers who make cards for whole teams use the Batch Relay Template Engine to run one front-and-back card design across every player on the roster, with each player's name, number, and position filled in.
